Week 8: Experiencing God
Adjusting Your Life To God
It’s week 8 of my online Bible study group. Here are some of the things I took away from the eighth week.
My Thoughts:
It’s Sabbath today and I’m doing the final day of Unit 7. I learned a lot today and for the first time in about 2 weeks have been able to fully concentrate. A lot has been happening in my life recently and a lot of hurtful things have come up.
At first I was so angry and confused and sad. I cried for a whole day and prayed a lot. I couldn’t sleep so spent my time being distracted and going back to the comfort things I once relied on even though the happy feeling is fleeting.
When I came to do my study, I knew I would have a lot to speak to God about but was quite surprised that He had a lot to say to me too. I didn’t think that todays lesson would be relevant to the situation i’m currently in (for some reason as all the lessons I’ve done previous has always been needed for the time I read it), but sure enough, I was able to connect the dots with a good chunk of what I read (thanks to the Holy Spirit, who I always pray will guide me as I read before I start my study sessions).
He told me that I have to trust Him and no matter what, follow where He leads, no matter the outcome. Sometimes you think that when you follow God, everything will be sunshine and rainbows but sometimes it really looks the opposite. In those times, don’t despair because it’s not a reflection of your faith levels. You don’t know all that’s going on, but God does. You don’t know what your obedience to Him has helped you with or saved you or someone else from so be patient and keep trusting.
I decided that a moment of discomfort now is worth the eternity I will have with Him later. This is something that I want to remind myself of constantly because I know that all that is happening is an answer to prayer. It is helping me to lean more on Him and to see which areas of my life are still not to where He would like them to be. He’s revealing what we need to work on next. That’s what I’ve been praying about: that I will become the women He wants me to be. That unfortunately at times can’t be done without action. You have to go out in the world, make mistakes, see your reflection of yourself through the light of His Son and realise how much dust there is clinging to you under His light.
It’s been 3 days since I did any study. I’ve just started day one of Unit 8 and it was a big one.
We are now going to be focusing on adjusting our lives to God and obeying Him and I know these are going to be important points for me as I have found that most times, I only do half of what God says or don’t completely give up everything. Or if I do follow 100%, I find myself turning back after a little while. What I want is to be on fire for Him 100% 24/7. How can this happen? I hope I will find the answers.
It’s day 2 now and I realised that I can’t continue to go by my emotions when it comes to following God. I want to get to a place where no matter what, I will follow Him and do what He says because I know that He has my best interest at heart and will never lead me wrong. I may not understand everything now, but that doesn’t mean that it’s wrong.
The Meeting:
I think it’s best that I there are no more meetings moving forward for the rest of this study as the few that have messaged me have let me know that they either haven’t got the book as of yet or haven’t studied any days yet. There are only 4 weeks left so I thought I’ll just continue on with my weekly study and posts and maybe start the course again once complete with those who have the book and want to start from the beginning with me in July.
