Week 10: Experiencing God

God's Will and the Church

It’s week 10 of my online Bible study group. Here are some of the things I took away from the tenth week.

My Thoughts:

It’s Sabbath today and I’m doing the final day of Unit 9 which sets me up perfectly to be back on track for Week 10’s lessons. I will say the past two lessons I have really enjoyed it and I looked forward to learning them.

I had many different dreams last night and the majority of them were about God and how He would like me to respond to His leading. The love He wants me to extend to others, the understanding and the direction He wants me to go in. I felt so happy remembering that God also uses dreams to communicate and was glad to know that I can recognise Him more.

There were a few meaningful parts to todays lesson, with one of them asking me what I would say to a young person who was asking me how they could decipher what God wants them to do with their life. Isn’t that the question we have all asked at some point? What are we supposed to do with our lives? Well, it was beautiful to see the answer and that it’s something that I’ve been following myself for the past few years, that it doesn’t necessarily matter our job title, what matters most is our relationship with God and trusting Him enough to guide us. Keep an eye on any open doors, but that is not the be all and end all. We don’t just get guided to one place and left there.

It’s Tuesday and I haven’t done a single study since. I feel like this is becoming a pattern so I’m not even going to mention it anymore.

Today I did my lesson in the evening and it was actually the first thing I did after watching my final YouTube video for the next three months.

When I saw the amount of words in this lesson I was immediately deflated, but it surprisingly didn’t take me very long to get through. I think this overwhelm was because I haven’t been making it a habit recently and because I’m tired at the end of the day. Seeing as I can’t do media tomorrow, I have a feeling I will get to it pretty quickly in the morning.

It’s 7:30am and I’ve just completed day 2. I’ve learned so much already and I’m ready to put things into practice. I believe I already am but the beauty of a relationship is that it can only ever deepen or shallow overtime and I’m ready for mine to deepen.

I enjoyed learning about how the Church is supposed to function under the leadership of Christ and just how important every role is. It was also interesting to see the differences of how God wants us to make decisions and how we actually do at the moment. It’s making me really see the importance of how each member needs to have their own personal relationship with God and a selfless attitude.

Today we delved more into the function of a church body and learned that spiritual gifts are actually the Holy Spirit working through us. The gift isn’t the ability to do something, the gift is the Holy Spirit and that’s so cool! It made me think about how I used to pray for the fruits of the Spirit, and that is what the Holy Spirit can bring through Himself. I guess Christ’s character being transformed in our lives is a gift too, just like the gift of being set free from sin. I’m so happy.

This morning I learned a whole lot about Church and it’s really put in my mind how I need to start regularly attending Church again. I usually just watch something online, but nothing beats going in person and being a part of the community. Yes, sometimes people put you off, but I’m learning through this study how to cope with different people and putting into place safe boundaries and praying for individuals and myself.

I’ll be finishing off this unit next week aka, tomorrow.
